004 - Long Hair Don't Care
Skies out, Thighs out
THOUGHT OF THE DAY
I don’t even know where to start. But yes, my hair is getting to a medium length now and I've been growing it out since last summer (with a few trims here and there). Ehh how to explain myself. I guess let’s start with the freedom aspect of it? Since May of last year I transferred over to the IRR, so no more drilling for me. And the result of that is I don’t have to comply with regulations anymore. No need to meet a standard or portray an image. My hair doesn’t need to have “a neat and conservative appearance”. Ugh, AR 670-1, how you like to ruin the fun and strip our individuality.. Anyway, It’s a simple freedom but a freedom I have back nonetheless. This is about hair right? (this is not about hair) You don’t know what you have until it’s gone I suppose. Yes, even something as simple as dyeing your hair a different color. You might never do it, but I’d rather have that option than NOT have that option. It's stupid, I know, but I choose to grow out my hair because I can and honestly it’s great, you know, free will and what not. And I wouldn’t expect you to get it and that’s okay because other Vets get it and that makes me feel less crazy.
I dislike haircuts too. The anxiety of having to talk to your barber when all you did since the last time you checked in was work.. water your plants. It makes things worse when you’re not very social either, haha. People loveee to claim that they're different and that's all fine, be different. Just don't try hard to be different. It comes off as disingenuous and that's why i'm not social. One day we're vibing, the next I don't know who you are. I also don't care for the barbershop talk. Dudes want to be (different) dudes at the barbershop and I just want the cut and be gone. (I can be all business, it's bad habit.) I'm such a hater lmaooo. Anyways, then you have to consider that maybe your boy is off their game this time and taper a little too high or miss a spot. And to finish off, it’s starting to get a little too expensive, in my opinion.. Maybe i'm cheap but that’s gas money bro!! I don't care if I look a little raggedy haha. It builds character and you'll have more money in your pocket. Win win.

Kinda adding to the whole "growing out my hair" journey. One thing I wish I would have done more often is take pictures to look back on. It didn’t have to be many but just a handful more than what I have saved. I mean, if I ever have kids they’d probably wanna know how their pops looked like in his 20s. I think it would be fun to freak them out with a picture of me with a full head of hair looking like John Wick, hahaha. Anyway too finish off, I’m still not sure what the final length of my hair will be for me but what I do know is that the ladies love running their fingers through my hair and that’s enough reason to keep it growing. Building up the dad lore before I get Nerfed.
